Mercor data licensing: what it pays and how referrals work
Mercor data licensing pays your company to license records from tools like Slack, Gmail and Salesforce to AI labs, with no published payout range. Mercor says pay depends on data volume, the tools you connect and data depth, and it typically wires payment 2 to 4 weeks after signing.
By Hoyt Gong, Topology Partners. Facts checked . Topology Partners is an independent referral intermediary and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any buyer named on this page.
Mercor data licensing, as used here, means a company licensing its own operating records to AI labs through Mercor. It is a different program from Mercor's marketplace that hires experts and contractors for AI work. It concerns your company's business records, not anyone's personal data.
Which tools and industries Mercor data licensing covers
Mercor licenses workflow records from more than 100 business tools and names eight target industries. Its data page lists Slack, Microsoft Teams, Gmail, Confluence, Salesforce, Outlook, GitHub, Drive and Notion as examples.
For several tools, Mercor names the records it wants. Examples are Slack channels and threads, Gmail messages and metadata, Salesforce accounts and opportunities, and GitHub commits and issues. Mercor says connecting more tools generally results in a higher payout.
Mercor lists these industries with example records. Topology Partners applies its own exclusions on top. The last column shows where I will make an introduction.
| Industry Mercor names | Records Mercor lists | Does Topology Partners refer it? |
|---|---|---|
| Legal | Contracts, case files, discovery docs | No (law firms excluded) |
| Healthcare | Clinical notes, claims, intake forms | No (patient health data excluded) |
| Finance and insurance | Statements, underwriting files, claims | Only companies that are not banks and hold no patient health data |
| Professional services | Client decks, SOWs, project files | Yes, except law and accounting firms |
| Manufacturing | Work orders, QA logs, spec sheets | Yes |
| Retail and e-commerce | Order records, inventory logs, listings | Yes |
| Real estate | Listings, leases, inspection reports | Yes |
| Logistics and supply chain | Shipping manifests, dispatch logs, invoices | Yes |
Topology Partners does not refer law firms, accounting firms, banks, defense contractors, schools, staffing firms or any company holding patient health data, regardless of a buyer's list. Check your industry against the last column before you go further.
How much Mercor pays a company for its data
Mercor publishes no payout range for data licensing. Its FAQ says compensation “is based on data volume, the tools you connect, and the depth of your data.”
Mercor says you pay no upfront costs, setup fees or deductions from the payment. It says it covers the costs of extraction, anonymization and transfer.
Mercor pays by wire “upon delivery of the anonymized dataset to the buyer.” It says that typically happens within 2 to 4 weeks of the signed agreement, depending on extraction and processing time.
Mercor's data page offers a quote form. A written Mercor quote is the only Mercor figure you can compare with another offer. Ask for one first.
How a Mercor data licensing deal runs, step by step
Mercor describes four steps, from choosing tools to payment.
- Scope. You choose which tools to include. Mercor says the more tools you share, the higher the payout.
- Connect. You link accounts from more than 100 supported tools.
- Process. Mercor says its platform “extracts and de-identifies data into an asset.” De-identification means removing names and anything else that points to a person.
- Payout. Mercor says you are paid once processing is complete.
Mercor says no data leaves your systems until you approve it. It says no AI lab buyer or third-party vendor sees your raw data. Its engineers oversee the pipeline but do not manually review your data.
Mercor cites SOC 2 Type II, encryption in transit, per-session credentials and encryption keys managed in AWS KMS. It also says it audits and logs every access.
Mercor, not Topology Partners, connects to your systems and de-identifies the records, under its own contract with you. Topology Partners never receives, scopes or moves your data. Have your lawyer read that contract before you connect any account.
How the Mercor data partnership referral works and what it pays
Mercor pays a referrer 5% of the signed deal, up to $100,000, according to its referral terms read 2026-10-24. Individual Mercor listings set their own caps, currently $25,000 to $92,500. Mercor pays that fee after your company's first data delivery.
Those terms sit inside Mercor's logged-in referral app, not on its public data page. The public page says only that the referrer is paid “when they go live and start earning.”
The referral itself is short. With your written OK, I submit your company through Mercor's referral app. That happens the same day as any other buyer you approve. Mercor says it then handles the outreach, the agreement and the data pipeline itself.
You pay nothing. Mercor pays the referral fee separately, and nothing comes out of your contract. You can strike Mercor from your list at any point, before or after the introduction.
What to get in writing before you sign with Mercor
Five terms belong in your signed Mercor contract, whatever its public pages say.
- De-identification method. Mercor says its anonymization is automated. Get in writing which fields it removes, how it tests the result, and whether you approve a sample before delivery.
- Deletion at term end. Mercor's data page does not mention retention or deletion. Get an end date for every copy and a written confirmation of deletion.
- Use limits. Mercor licenses and packages your records for AI labs. Get the permitted uses, the term, and whether a lab may pass the records on.
- Named-competitor exclusions. List by name any company that must never receive your records.
- Where end buyers are based. If it matters to you, we ask every buyer in writing; any that refuses comes off your list.
Your lawyer decides whether a draft covers each point. The checklist for counsel lists what they will check.
What Mercor does not publish about its data licensing program
Mercor's public data page leaves out several figures and rules an owner would want before applying.
- A payout range. Mercor gives no figure, range or example for a company deal.
- A size bar. Mercor names industries but no minimum headcount or years in operation.
- Attribution rules. Mercor does not say who is credited when a company hears of it from more than one referrer, or applies directly.
- Retention and deletion. The data page does not say how long Mercor or its buyers keep your records.
If you have already applied to Mercor or spoken with its team, tell me first. I will leave Mercor off your list. Put each open question to Mercor in writing and keep the replies.
Questions owners ask
Is Mercor data licensing the same as working for Mercor?
No. Mercor data licensing is for companies that license their own operating records to AI labs. Mercor's expert and contractor marketplace is a separate program for individuals looking for paid AI work.
How much does Mercor pay a company for its data?
Mercor publishes no range. Its data page says compensation is based on data volume, the tools you connect and the depth of your data. It adds that more tools generally mean a higher payout. Ask Mercor for a written quote before you compare it with any other buyer.
When does Mercor pay, and does it charge fees?
Mercor says it pays by wire on delivery of the anonymized dataset, typically within 2 to 4 weeks of the signed agreement. It says there are no upfront costs, setup fees or deductions. It covers extraction, anonymization and transfer costs (Mercor's data page, read 2026-10-25).
What does Mercor pay Topology Partners for a referral?
Mercor's referral terms, read 2026-10-24, pay 5% of the signed deal, up to $100,000, after your first data delivery. Individual Mercor listings set their own caps, currently $25,000 to $92,500. You pay nothing, and nothing is deducted from your contract.
Which industries does Mercor want data from?
Mercor names legal, healthcare, finance and insurance, professional services, manufacturing, retail and e-commerce, real estate, and logistics and supply chain. Topology Partners does not refer law firms, accounting firms, banks, defense contractors, schools, staffing firms or any company holding patient health data, whatever a buyer's list says.
Who sees my raw data in a Mercor deal?
Mercor says its anonymization process is automated. It says no AI lab buyer or third-party vendor sees your raw data. It says its engineers oversee the pipeline but do not manually review your data. Get the de-identification method and the access rules written into your contract.
Can I sell my company's data to Mercor?
You license it rather than sell it. Mercor describes its model as “We license it, package it, and pay you for it.” Your contract sets who may use the records, for what, and for how long.
How Topology Partners is paid
Topology Partners is paid by buyers, never by you. When you sign with a buyer that runs a referral program, that buyer pays us a referral fee. Here is what each buyer publishes, as we read it on October 24, 2026:
- micro1: $50,000 for deals up to $700,000, or 7.5% of deal value above that; $75,000 for a company that has shut down, on deals up to $1M. micro1 pays by wire after it has received and approved the data.
- Mercor: 5% of the signed deal, up to $100,000. Each Mercor listing sets its own cap, currently $25,000 to $92,500. Paid after your first data delivery.
- Scale AI: up to $50,000, paid only if Scale signs a partnership with you.
- Handshake AI: $10,000, paid once your data transfer is completed and accepted.
- Turing (Project Lazarus): up to $10,000 when a referral “becomes a deal”. Turing doesn't define what that means.
- Troveo: a marketplace with no referral program. It pays us nothing.
Some buyers pay us more than others. Here is what that means for you:
- 01You pay nothing. No fee to us, at any point, whether or not you sign.
- 02Nothing comes out of your contract. The buyer pays our fee separately; it is never deducted from what you're paid.
- 03You see our fee first. Before any introduction, we tell you in writing what each buyer pays us.
- 04You can strike any buyer. Including the ones that pay us most. Offers come straight to you, and the final choice, including “none”, is yours.
No buyer pays us to be listed or ranked on this site.
